High School Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers needed for Challenger Gym at the new GVCO Community Center from 3:45-5:30 on the following Thursday afternoons: Oct. 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30, Dec. 7, 14.
** Please note, there will be no Challenger Gym on Thursday, November 23th in observance of Thanksgiving.
Do you like to make new friends and learn new skills and have lots of fun while you’re doing it? Then you have come to the right place! An integral piece of the Challenger Gym program is our volunteer Buddies. They accompany our participants on every step, hop, roll, run and slide all while playing, encouraging, and generally having fun.

Each participant is carefully paired with one or more Buddies based on their needs and it is the goal of the program to keep the same Buddies and participants together for the duration of the fall or spring session for familiarity and to help grow relationships. Wendy Morris will guide each group and facilitate where needed, but in most cases, it takes no time at all for friendships to develop and teamwork to emerge.
Volunteers will need to be high school students and we are looking for a full commitment to the session, usually 6 weeks, so we can maintain consistency. Please check the registration page for the current session dates, times and locations to be sure you can make the appropriate commitment. If you have any questions, please contact Wendy Morris or Debbie McAneney at [email protected].

The most notable feedback we get regarding this program from every session is the strength of the high school Buddies and the impact they have on the participants. Families are so very grateful for the time and patience given. But we also see the impact that these participants have on the Buddies. Each week, the Buddies are excited to see their friends and play some more as they learn about what the word “abilities” can really mean. Please consider being a volunteer Buddy if you are able – you won’t regret it!
