FAQ's

Spring 2026

1. What is the Great Valley Volleyball League?

The Great Valley Volleyball League (“GVVL”) is a youth volleyball program run by the Great Valley Community Organization (“GVCO”) that is designed for girls in the Great Valley School District in grades 3 – 8.  The program is built around learning, fun, and community. Players of all abilities are welcome. The vision of GVVL is to create a fun experience for the kids playing and learning the game of volleyball, while competing with their peers and developing lifelong friendships.

2. What divisions are being offered in the spring rec program?  Can my daughter play up or down in a different division?

The GVVL spring rec program offers 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 divisions.  The 3/4 division is for current 3rd and 4th graders. The 5/6 division is for current 5th and 6th graders.  The 7/8 division is for current 7th and 8th graders. Players must register for the division for their current grade.  Players will not be permitted to play up or play down a division.

3. When will clinics be held for the different divisions?

The 3/4 division will meet one time per week for clinics on Mondays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. The 5/6 division will have clinics on Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. The 7/8 division will have clinics on Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

4.  When will matches be held?

In addition to the weekly clinics, the 5/6 and 7/8 divisions will have weekly matches.  Matches will be held primarily on Saturdays and occasionally on Monday evenings.  Additional details regarding the match schedule will be released as registrations are finalized and the league gets underway.  Saturday matches will begin as early as 11:30 am and will be scheduled throughout the afternoon.

5. What balls will be used by each division?

The 3/4 and 5/6 division will use volley lite balls, which are lightweight volleyballs designed for beginner and youth players typically aged 12 and under. Volley lite balls are regulation size but lighter than standard volleyballs. The 7/8 division will use standard volleyballs.

6.  What equipment do the players need?

Players should wear sneakers, but do not otherwise need any specific equipment. Knee pads are recommended for all players. Elbow pads and arm sleeves are optional. Players do not need to provide their own ball.

7.  How will playing time be handled?

All kids will get equal playing time. Attendees at clinics will have an equal opportunity to participate in the drills and instruction. In the 5/6 and 7/8 matches, teams with more than six players will substitute every rotation. There will be no official substitution like school or club teams. The goal is for all players to experience each position on the court and have equal playing time.

8.   Will the GVVL offer summer camps?
