Fall Sideline Cheer

The Junior Patriots Cheer Program combines sideline cheer for football and basketball with competitive cheer where the athletes will compete in competitions in the local area. The athletes will spend time on the fundamentals of stunting, learn a competition routine, condition, work on tumbling and learn cheers for football and basketball. They will also do other voluntary community events to perform to the community, and specifics will be communicated as they are scheduled.

Each week, there will be a two hour and a half practices at a location within the Great Valley School District between August and early November. These practices are closed to parents, but the coaches will upload videos to the Facebooks and Instagram pages. The season starts in early August. The athletes will cheer at home tackle football games during the fall, which are typically held on Sunday mornings through the last weekend of October. There will be between two and four competitions during the fall on the weekend.

Once football games and competitions are over, the athletes drop to one practice a week to continue to work on stunting and learn basketball cheers. They will cheer at GVBL tournament team games. During basketball season, the schedule is significantly reduced to allow for the cheerleaders to also play for GVBL or other winter sports. The cheer season will wrap up in December.

Flag Cheer - Fall 2020

During the Fall season, our Flag Cheerleaders learned GVFL cheers, jumps and dance routines. During halftime of the flag football games, the cheerleaders went out on the field to show the fans what they learned by cheering to them and getting them excited for the remainder of the game.

In addition to learning cheers, the Cheer Clinics focused on conditioning, their favorite planks, and broke into lines for bear crawls, hand stands and other jumps. Coach Abby, Coach Lexi and Coach Izzy worked with individual groups to sharpen their skills in a more focused, one on one level.

The cheers being taught at the clinics are the same cheers that GVMS and GVHS learn for the high school football games. Those cheerleaders moving up from flag cheer may find that new, and more difficult, motions are introduced in these cheer clinics. The clinics include conditioning for the athletes to help them work out the various muscles and stretch the parts of their bodies to help with jumps and stunting. The athletes learn the various jumps in cheerleading including toe-touches, herkies, pikes and hurdlers.& Though there is no stunting in the current season, it’s important for them to develop the skills necessary for future seasons. All cheerleaders receive poms during the clinics.
