ICBA PLAYOFFS AND GV IS WELL REPRESENTED

The Intercounty Basketball Association playoffs kick off this weekend and our GV Tournament Teams will be in the thick of it in a number of the divisions. Two of our teams earned a 1st round bye and will host a game in the 2nd round here at the GVMS. Both the 5th Grade Girls Lightning and the 6th Grade Boys 29ers teams ended the regular eason at 10-2 and will be the #2 seeds in their respective brackets. The 8th Grade Boys Knights ended up 9-3 and will be the #3 seed in their bracket, hosting a 1st round home game at the middle school. Three more GV Tournament Teams have also made the playoff tournament: the 6th Grade Girls Hive (#6 seed); 5th Grade Boys Raptors (#7 seed); and 8th Grade Girls Storm (#8 seed) will all start off on the road.

In addition, our 7th Grade Girls Diamonds and 4th Grade Boys Heat are both completing successful campaigns in winter Malvern League competition. Please read below for some highlights of recent action for each of the teams. Go to the ICBA website for complete schedule and standings information with regard to the ICBA Playoffs.

I8th Grade Girls- Storm

The Storm completed its regular season this past weekend in ICBA play. On Friday, the team lost to top-ranked HVAA White at Great Valley Middle School. On Sunday, the team hosted Perkiomen Valley in a win-and-in playoff scenario and picked up a 32-23 victory. Lauren Chain hit three 3-pointers and had 13 points. Ava Hall and Kate Weikert also contributed 8 points each. Sophia Kauler was a beast on the boards, picking up plenty of rebounds. Lily Mattison, Sarah Culbertson and Lauren Serpentine also made contributions, specifically on the defensive end. The team now gets a rematch against HVAA White in the first round of the ICBA playoffs sometime in the next week.

7th Grade Girls- Diamonds

The Diamonds continue to improve as a team, playing this past weekend in the Springford Tournament. They won one game before losing to eventual winner, East Norriton. They play weekly in the Malvern League, splitting their team in two to get playing time for all involved. Macy Devine has seen her game get better each game, leading the team in scoring while Ali Bartlett and Aniya Hardikar man the ship at the point.

6th Grade Boys - 29ers

The 29ers finished the ICBA season with a 41-23 win at home against MARA and 46-11 win on the road over Perkiomen Valley. It's getting harder and harder to highlight standout performances as the 29ers are playing as a strong team unit! This week we shout-out Matthew Kasser's five steals against Perk Valley and James McCollum's three full court breakaway layups against MARA. The team enters playoffs as the two seed and is looking forward to putting in the work at practice before playoffs and states!

8th Grade Boys- Knights and Raiders

The Knights went 2-0 in their ICBA games this week behind 25 and 18 point performances from Jake Matty. The second win was a close game against Somerton won by a late 3 and clutch free throws from Aryan Honde. The team also successfully qualified for the 2023 PA Middle School State Championship by going 3-1 at the CES Winter Freeze Tournament. Sean Eisenhardt had his best game of the season Sunday morning and Cooper Callahan broke his finger in Saturday's game but returned to action on Sunday!

The Raiders will wrap up their ICBA season this weekend and also participate in the Spring-Ford Presidents Day Tournament. This past week included a close loss to MARA with Jack Tengwall scoring a team high 13 points, and Everett Graef contributing another 10.

5th Grade Girls - Lightning

The Lightning continued their winning streak in ICBA action over the Jan. 30th weekend with a 24 - 8 win over Boyertown. Charlie deVries led the scoring for the Lightning with 10 points. The team will be home next Sunday against Phoenixville.
