GVCO Advisory Board

The Advisory Board will be non-fiduciary body responsible for helping with the continual development of the mission and vision of GVCO. Advisory Board members are community leaders who are capable of positively influencing the direction of the organization. This group of volunteers will assist GVCO and its staff in the management and administration of the organizations strategic plan. 

Ed Curran

Ed has resided in Malvern the majority of his life. He grew up in East Whiteland Township, spent 8 years living in the Malvern Borough and has lived the last 11 years in Charlestown Township.

Professional / Affiliations

Ed currently works for Tanium. Ed has worked in technology sales for the last 20 years. Ed has a keen understanding of organizational dynamics. Ed is active in the community coaching youth sports at Great Valley Basketball League (8 years), Great Valley Football League (2 years) Great Valley Little League (10 years) and Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association (8 years). Ed has been on the board of his rugby club, Philadelphia Whitemarsh Rugby Football Club (a 501c3 nonprofit) for the last 20 years, currently serving as Treasurer. Ed is an active parishioner of St Patrick's Parish.

Educational Background

Ed graduated from Devon Prep in 1988 where he played soccer, basketball, baseball and tennis. He earned a BBA in Finance at Loyola University Maryland in 1992. Ed was the captain of the Rugby team while at Loyola. Ed earned his MBA from Saint Joseph's University in 2003.

Personal

Ed lives in Malvern with his wife, Marjorie, and three children Joe, Julia and Danny. Ed enjoys coaching his children, traveling with his wife and children and playing golf and basketball. Ed cheers for all the Philadelphia professional sports teams and is an avid high school and college basketball fan.

Jeff Dill

Jeff Dill joined the GVCO board in 2013. Jeff has lived in Malvern since 2004 after living in Wayne for several years. Jeff grew up in Rocky Hill, CT.

Professional / Affiliations

Jeff is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Vynamic, where he has worked since 2005. Vynamic is a healthcare industry management consulting firm located in Philadelphia. Prior to Vynamic, Jeff's work experience included working for Accenture, a global consulting and technology company. Jeff also became a Board Member of the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia in 2012.

Educational Background

Jeff attended Rocky Hill High School in Rocky Hill, CT where he played both basketball and soccer. He attended college at Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where he played Division 1 soccer.

Personal

Jeff lives in Malvern with his wife, Stefanie, and three daughters Julia, Aimee and Natalie. With all three kids now in elementary school, Jeff has really enjoyed coaching them in both basketball and soccer. In addition to his passion for coaching, Jeff enjoys heading to Avalon, NJ in the summers and watching any and all sports.

Molly Fuhr

Ms. Fuhr joined the board in January 2015. Molly has lived in Malvern since 1997, and grew up in Paoli where she attended Charlestown Elementary, General Wayne Middle, and Great Valley High Schools.

Professional / Affiliations

Molly taught high school English and coached Lacrosse at Conestoga High School prior to deciding to stay home and raise her kids. During this "break" from being employed, Molly has served on many Boards and committees, such as:

  • Philadelphia Folksong Society Board Member and Secretary. The PFS operates and oversees the longest-running folk music festival in the country (The Philadelphia Folk Festival), presents folk music to low-income schools in Philadelphia, and presents concerts for music lovers in the area (among other things).
  • Episcopal Day School, Church of the Good Samaritan: Monitor Parent Coordinator, Silent Auction Committee
  • GWES PTO: Treasurer, Fall Fundraiser Co-Chair, Spring Fair Co-Chair, Holiday Shopping Co-Chair, Fifth Grade Committee Co-Chair.
  • GWES: Parent Key Communicator, Library Volunteer, Special Event Photographer, 3rd Grade Book Club Leader, general volunteer. The Foundation at Great Valley: Silent Auction Committee, Alumni Committee, Great Walk Committee.
  • Chester Valley Little League Board of Directors: T-Ball Coordinator, coach.
    *Manager for multiple travel soccer teams and Volunteer Coach for softball, field hockey and STRIDE running club.
  • Molly is currently working for the Great Valley School District as a daily substitute teacher.

    Educational Background

    Molly went through the Great Valley School District where she played field hockey and lacrosse. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's Degree in English where she played field hockey and lacrosse. She went on to receive her Masters of Education from the Penn Department of Education.

    Personal

    Molly lives with her husband Bill Bassill, an active coach as well, and their two sons, Finn and Gus, and daughter Wylie - all of whom have enjoyed playing basketball at GVBL!

    Dave Hopkins

    Mr. Hopkins joined the GVCO Board of Directors in 2012. Dave grew up in West Chester, PA and moved back to the area with his family in 2004.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Dave is currently the Owner of Providence One, LLC which focuses on the development of residential properties. Prior to Providence One, Dave was COO of Mark Group, Inc., a global provider of energy efficiency services for homes, schools and businesses. Prior to joining Mark Group, Dave served as Assistant Vice President for Toll Brothers, Inc. Dave joined Toll Brothers after serving over 6 years on active duty as a Naval Officer.

    Educational Background
    Dave attended West Chester East High School and received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy where he was recruited to play basketball. He earned a bachelors of science degree in Economics from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1998 and an MBA from Drexel University in 2004.

    Personal
    Dave lives in Malvern, PA with his wife, JoAnne, and their three children (Anna, Will, and Danny). Dave enjoys coaching youth sports, playing golf, and spending time at the shore.

    Christine Johnson

    Christine Johnson serves on the Great Valley Community Organization Board. Chris has lived in the Great Valley community for 15 years and has served on the Great Valley Community Organization Board since inception over 11 years ago. Her responsibilities have been varied from fundraising, coaching, organizational development and community involvement.

    Chris has been an active community volunteer for many years including serving on;

    • PTO Board Member and Founder "Eager Reader Program" at Sunny Hills Elementary and developed Anti-Drug Awareness Program for the Issaquah School District in Issaquah, Washington
    • PTO Board - Charlestown Elementary 2003-2005
    • GVSB District Re-Zoning Committee
    • Coaching in various sports programs including soccer and basketball in Issaquah and Great Valley
    • Great Valley Community Organization (GVCO), Board Member 2005 - 2016
    • Steps For Hope, Board Member 2016. Chris serves on the Steps For Hope Board with the specific responsibility to be the liaison between Great Valley Community Organization and Steps For Hope

     

    Professional / Affiliations
    Chris retired from a 15-year career as a flight attendant with American Airlines in Chicago, Illinois. She dedicates her time to supporting her children's personal and academic endeavors and supporting non-profit groups in developing and promoting programs that benefit all families in the Great Valley School District.

    Educational Background
    Chris attended Iowa City High School in Iowa City, Iowa where she played basketball, volleyball and track and studied at University of Iowa.

    Personal
    Chris lives in Charlestown Township with her husband Calvin. She has three daughters who have graduated from Great Valley High School (Chelsea, Alexis and Lauren). Her hobbies include traveling, physical fitness and community service. Chris devotes her time to her family and Great Valley Community Organization.

    Denise Kerns

    Denise Kerns is a recent member of the GVCO Board, beginning April 2016. She is also co-president and treasurer of Great Valley Crew; a competitive rowing team formed December 2015, by two moms with no rowing experience (Denise and Meredith Mitchell), some knowledgeable advisors and a few believers cheering them on.

    Denise grew up in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Willistown Towship in 2009, with her husband, Andy and (at the time) 3 children, Andrew, Jonathan, Taylor, from Montgomery County, PA. They have since added a fourth child in 2013, Annabelle.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Prior to the addition of their 4th child, Denise worked for 15 years in center city Philadelphia for Exude Benefits Group. Exude is a leading brokerage firm specializing in Health Benefits, Human Resource Consulting, Retirement plans, Property and Liability Insurance and specialized markets. Denise helped grow the company from its 5 original employees when she started, to 34 employees when she left the company in 2013. She was an internal Director for the Account Management team as well as the Director of the Non-Profit Practice Group and helped with external sales.

    Denise is currently working part-time in West Chester at Tegler McHenry & Associates, a local brokerage firm specializing in employee benefits consulting for mid-sized firms. This new role and locality allows more time with her children and to pursue ventures with her children and in the community.

    Educational Background
    Denise graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1989, she also went to Cosmetology school and graduated in June 1990. She then went on and earned a BBA in Risk Management and Insurance with a minor in HR from Temple University's Fox School of Business.

    Personal
    Denise lives in Willistown with her husband, Andy and their four children. Denise enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, being outdoors, running, and going to MD on long summer weekends for boating, beaching and downtime with no wifi.

    Chris Miller, Esq.

    Chris Miller is a partner in the law firm of Pepper Hamilton LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity, venture capital and securities, with specific focus on the life science and technology industries.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Chris is an adjunct professor in the MBA program at Lehigh University. He also lectures regularly on M&A and venture capital issues. Chris is a member of the board of directors of The Children's Country Week Association and a member of the finance committee of the West Chester Valley Golf Club.

    Educational Background
    Chris graduated from the College of William & Mary. He received his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was an editor of the Law Review.

    Personal
    Chris lives in Malvern with his wife (Beth) and children (Jake and Lindsay). His hobbies include golf, tennis and snowboarding.

    Kelly Prevost

    Kelly Prevost joined the GVCO board in 2015. Kelly also serves on the GVFL board as the special events coordinator, a position she has held since 2012. Recently, Kelly was instrumental in facilitating the addition of competitive cheerleading to the list of activities offered by GVCO. Kelly grew up in a small farm town in Ohio. She moved to Villanova after college to become a nanny. Eventually Kelly ended up in Willistown where she and her husband (Dave) purchased a home in 2000.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Kelly spent seven years as the middle school guidance counselor at the Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova. While there, she served as the JV volleyball coach and assistant softball coach. Once her children started school, Kelly's entrepreneurial skills kicked in and she started several successful home-based businesses. Since then, Kelly has been a small business owner and does merchandizing and marketing consulting for other small businesses.

    Educational Background
    Kelly attended Seneca East High School in Attica, Ohio. After graduation, she attended Ohio University and studied psychology and sociology. From there, Kelly went on to Villanova University where she received her Masters Degree in Counseling and Human Relations.

    Personal
    Kelly lives in Willistown with her husband (Dave) and their three children (Jake, Livy and Caroline). With several seasons of basketball, football and cheerleading under her belt, Kelly is grateful for what her children have been offered through GVCO and is passionate and excited about what lies ahead! In the rare off-season, Kelly, Dave and their children enjoy spending time at their cottage on the Chesapeake and entertaining friends by their backyard bonfire.

    Rick Ridall

    Rick Ridall joined the GVCO board in March of 2013 and serves on the Internship committee. His focus is establishing, implementing and developing the student internship growth and contributions for GVCO through Temple University college students and Great Valley High School students. Rick grew up in Phoenixville and lived in Philadelphia and Drexel Hill. In 2003 he and his family moved to the Malvern area.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Rick begin his career in Sports working for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1987. In 1991 he joined the Philadelphia Flyers and Comcast-Spectacor (Philadelphia based Sports and Entertainment Company), where he worked in operations and sales roles until 2009. In 2009, he went back to Temple University where he is currently employed as a Professor and Director of Industry Relations for the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (Sport and Recreation Management Concentration). Rick also serves on the Board/Session at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Frazer.

    Educational Background
    Rick graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1983, The Perkiomen School in 1984 then attended Temple University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Masters of Education in Sport and Recreation Management.

    Personal
    Rick lives in East Whiteland Township with his wife Nichole and their 3 children Mikaela, Jake and Noelle. Interest include: All his kids activities and sports (watching and coaching), physical fitness (more in theory than practice!), watching all college/pro sports and rare uninterrupted moments speaking with his wife!

    Gary Taiariol

    Gary Taiariol has been a member of the GVCO Board of Directors since 2011. Gary is also treasurer of GVCO; a position he has held since 2012. Gary is President of the Great Valley Basketball League. Gary also is a member of the GVCO building site committee.Gary is active in coaching, refereeing and administering GVBL's recreational and tournament team programs.Gary grew up in Clarks Summit, PA and has resided in Willistown Towship with his wife Denise and their sons, James and John, for the past 11 years.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Gary is currently Chief Financial Officer for Channel One Holdings and Core Avionics & Industrial, a leading semi-conductor and software provider to the commercial aviation industry. Prior to this position, Gary held senior leadership positions within the financial services industry for ING and Equifax.

    Educational Background
    Gary graduated from Abington Heights High School in 1986, where he was played basketball, soccer and baseball. He then went on and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Scranton. Gary is a Certified Public Accountant.

    Personal
    Gary lives in Malvern with his wife (Denise) and their two children (James and John). Gary enjoys spending time with his family and his hobbies include coaching youth basketball and playing golf.

    Alex Utecht

    Alex Utecht has been on the GVCO Board of Directors since 2011 and he serves on the GVCO Finance Committee. Alex also serves on the GVFL Board and is the GVFL Football Coordinator. Alex grew up in Erie, PA and Charlottesville, VA. In 2003, Alex and his family moved to Malvern from Bermuda after his company relocated to Radnor.

    Professional / Affiliations
    Alex has worked at Stevens Capital Management for over 20 years. He was a futures and equities trader for the bulk of his career and is now an account analyst. Prior to working in the hedge fund industry, Alex worked in operations for Wachovia Bank in North Carolina. Alex is a member of the Chester Valley Golf Club.

    Educational Background
    Alex attended Western Albemarle High School in Crozet, VA and accepted an athletic scholarship to The College of William & Mary. He played four years of Varsity football for the Tribe and was elected team Captain in 1992. Alex graduated from William & Mary in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

    Personal
    Alex lives in Malvern with his wife (Allison) and their four children (Xander, Allyssa, Adam, and Abraham). He is an avid follower of William & Mary Tribe football and Great Valley sports. Alex enjoys spending time with his family and his hobbies include coaching youth sports, physical fitness, golf, and fishing.
