GVCO Girls Flag Football

In Spring 2025, GVCO will have a Girls HS division, Girls 7th/8th grade division and Girls 5th/6th grade division.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) has declared girls' flag football as an official sport sanctioned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, beginning 2025-2026.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the PIAA now joins 12 other state associations to sanction girl's flag football.

Girls Flag Football is now a state-sanctioned sport in Pennsylvania. Archbishop Wood captured the Eagles Girls Flag League of Pennsylvania Championship in 2024. PIAA will host the championship events beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

A surge in interest in flag football hit a high point this summer when the International Olympic Committee announced plans to make flag football an official Olympic sport, for men and for women, at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
