Crew News and Updates

It's Official... GV Crew is Moving!

Starting with the Fall season 2020, Great Valley Crew will be rowing out of the John S. Trinsey Jr. Memorial Boathouse which is also home of the Upper Merion Rowing Association.

Many thanks to Marcy Schell for her work in making this happen! The move will cut our travel time to practices in half. The boathouse is also fully equipped with 24 ergs and is part of the Upper Merion John S. Trinsey Jr. Memorial Boathouse Township Park.

The boathouse is located on the Schuylkill River in Bridgeport, just past the King of Prussia Mall. Click above for directions in case you want to drive up and check it out.

Great Valley Crew Season is Cancelled

The Crew Board of Directors has had the difficult task of working and re-working the budget to find a way to return registration fees while keeping the program solvent. As you know, the upfront costs of running the program – including rent, insurance, equipment, and coaching – are high. Additionally, a significant portion of our budget is supported by fundraising, which has been disrupted by the coronavirus crisis.

After much consideration, we are able to offer crew families a 40% refund. GVCO will issue checks later this week and mail them to the address entered at the time of registration.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all navigate this difficult time. We look forward to getting the kids back on the water and cheering them on at future regattas.

Questions? Please contact John Brewer at [email protected]

However, you can order GV yard signs to congratulate your senior and show your GV pride!

Signs are only $40 and benefit the GV Crew Team.

  • There is No Experience necessary for you to row with us!
  • Rowers must be GVHS or GVMS Students in grades 8-12.
  • There is NO TRANSPORTATION provided to practices in Delaware or to our regattas in Philly, NJ and DEL. There is a voluntary parent-led carpool for those that want to participate.
  • We row out of Wilmington Youth Rowing Association, WYRA, the address is 500 E Front St., WILMINGTON, DEL 19801.
  • Practices begin on February 19, 2020.
  • PRACTICES are MONDAY-WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY 3:45-6:15pm and SATURDAY at WYRA from 10am to 1pm.
  • PLEASE NOTE This is a competitive rowing team, we need your full commitment to all practices and regattas. We need the whole team at every practice to ensure we can get on the water ever day the weather conditions allow. We lowered the number of weekday practices when we moved to WYRA, due to the commute and respecting the rowers need to have time for school work. So more than ever, we need full commitment, one rower missing practice means an entire boat has to stay on-land.

Salute our rowers for another fantastic year!

These kids worked hard this season! Lots of 6k's and getting up early for Regattas. We hope to have everyone back next season plus additional folks who have expressed interest in joining in the spring. We are always interested in growing the team so talk it up. The more rowers we have, the more opportunity to get out on the water!
