About Art & Design

Art is an integral part of childhood development. The arts are sometimes seen as a luxury, but in fact, the visual arts nurture and encourage mental and physical development to flourish. According to the National Institutes of Health, early practice in making art encourages fine motor skills to develop well. Art has also been shown to encourage good decision making. Education in visual arts opens children up to trying new things and being creative at a young age. Visual Arts also encourage inventiveness and creativity, which translate over to academic subject areas as well, and create a growth mindset.

According to a report by Americans for the Arts there is a clear correlation between regular practice of art, and academic achievement. In addition to exposing these students to different forms of art, I would like to show them the many different career paths available in the visual art field. According to Michigan State University, art encourages not only fine motor skills, but cognitive development, math skills and language skills as well.

With this art club, we hope to show students the many benefits and mediums of the visual arts. We believe that this club can reach out too many students to create a community of young artists.
